What does it mean to have a creative mind or to be a creative person? Webster says it is the ability to see and make things in a new or different way. I certainly would agree with the “see” but not always sure about the “make” part of the definition. What Webster doesn’t say is it can become so much a part of who you are that you don’t sleep at night because your mind is formulating patterns of colors, fabrics, embellishments, etc.
I was in a local store I visit frequently for sewing supplies and came upon a pack of fabric floral cut out’s and thought I could surely find a way to use them on something I was planning to create. I noticed they had little brads in the container and asked the clerk what the item was intended to be used for, or did she think I could use them on fabric.
Her immediate answer was, “no” those are brads you nail them on you couldn’t put them on fabric. My immediate thought was, “a lady who lives in a box” and only uses items as others say they are to be used so don’t ask her opinion. Now if I were to ask my daughter the same question I would wager we would have a thirty minute conversation on how we could and couldn’t use those flowers.
My challenge to all you is get out of your box, look at things with an open mind and do not limit yourself in crafting or anything else in life. The sky is the limit when our minds are open to new ideas.
