Inkbloom – a new way of crafting

inkblooms (2)I recently received a package in the mail from Tanya, friend of mine in Oregon. She runs an online company called Inkbloom. In the package was some sweet crafty goodness that I can’t wait to play with! The concept is quite cool really.

Printing fabric on your color inkjet printer is made possible using Loomtack™, a self-adhesive fabric stabilizer. That is what is in the cool looking canisters.

Fabric by itself will not feed through a printer.  But by giving it a firm backing, it will feed through your printer just like an ordinary piece of paper.  That’s where Loomtack™ comes into play. Simply peel, adhere it to fabric and you’re ready to print.

Here’s what I really like. Inkbloom™ takes it a step further by offering the other integral components of fabric printing including:

Base Fabric – plain white fabric to print.  They offer a wide variety of cotton fabrics like cotton twill, cotton sheeting, and cotton muslin to name a few.

Inkblocks™designs to print onto fabric. Their designs are downloadable and and can be customized with your favorite colors using Photoshop® Elements. Oh and Tanya has some really wonderful graphic designs to pick from.

Here’s what I really like. No more searching for fabric in a specific colorway.  No worrying about fabric being discontinued.  And no second trips to the fabric store because you’ve run out of fabric for your project.

So I’ve been mulling over exactly what I’ll be making from this new stash of mine. Jewelry bags for Julie’s items? Customized Valentine gift bags with the kids’ photos printed on them? A chef’s gift bag with the recipe printed right on the bag and the needed ingredients inside? Fabric gift tags that I’ll punch out using a decorative paper punch? Sunglasses cases with the person’s name imprinted on the case? Oh the ideas are limitless, don’t you think?

I’m hoping over the holidays to have a little play time so I can craft up some of these new ideas. Stop on over at Tanya’s place and check out her place. Lots of inspirational ideas to be found there.
