Valentine Get Together with Friends

See all of this Thursday’s tablescapes at Susan’s Between Naps on the Porch. Valentine’s can be a bit of a pricey “holiday” if your spouse takes you out to a nice dinner. And it seems every restaurant  knows that based on their menu prices that night too, not to mention getting reservations is a bit tricky.

So a few years ago we did something different with friends.  We hosted 5 couples for a Valentine’s dinner. Each couple contributed $25 towards the food which I prepared and they all brought one bottle of wine for sharing. Lots of candles and imitation roses added the feel of Valentine. I used red napkins with an imitation rose inserted within each napkin ring.

I made up the dishes about an hour before hand and placed the food in chafing dishes to keep the food warm. Once the guests came, we were able to share a meal together that was fun and affordable. I guess the risk with this arrangement is your guests don’t like your cooking :)
